SUMMARY:Interconnectedness of Indian Wisdom Traditions
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join some of the Satsangam family (Emily Glaser\, Kimberly Kubicke\, Erin Casperson\, Dr. Ramkumar & Dr. Claudia Welch as we head to beautiful Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in Nassau\, Bahamas\, to explore the cultural\, spiritual\, philosophical\, scientific and artistic context in which Indian wisdom traditions like yoga and Ayurveda exist. While in the West it is common for students to quickly specialize in one or another of these traditions\, in the East there was traditionally a foundational education in multiple disciplines\, before honing in on one subject. Beginning to learn Eastern subjects in this traditionally Eastern way allows us to make new connections\, gain insights\, inspiration and depth in not only a subject we are studying but also into the interconnectedness of Indian knowledge traditions in general. This week we will explore aspects of Ayurveda\, yoga\, Jyotisha\, Vedic administration\, various concepts that relate to them all\, and how they are interconnected. \nWe will all be fed vegetarian food\, have daily yoga classes\, learning sessions\, satsangs\,  and time in the ocean and sun\, all in the harmonious environment of an ashram that welcomes all religions\, faiths\, and humans. \nContact Sivananda Ashram for reservations and questions.

SUMMARY:How Prāṇāyāma affects mind for Sattvāvajaya
DESCRIPTION:May 1 2025\nThursday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 7:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nRobert Moses brings decades of dedicated practice in prāṇāyāma to our Vedic Threads sessions\, offering us a practical exploration of how breath can quiet and balance the mind. In recent discussions\, we’ve examined sattvāvajaya cikitsā—methods for restoring equilibrium to the mind and emotions—through an intellectual lens with Fred Smith. Now\, Robert will help us embody this understanding\, guiding us in the application of prāṇāyāma as a practical\, accessible tool for mental steadiness and clarity. According to Caraka\, sattvāvajaya treatment includes knowledge\, special knowledge\, restraint\, memory\, and concentration. Robert will illuminate how prāṇāyāma supports these qualities\, providing us with an experiential dimension to complement our studies. \nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads. For 35 USD/month you have access to two live 1.5-hour sessions/month with Drs. Ramkumar\, Welch\, world-class guest instructors\, dedicated participants from all over the world\, and more than 70 hours of content from previous sessions. SUMMARY:Understanding Stotras - The wellspring of spiritual essence
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 7:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nUnderstanding Stotras: The Wellspring of Spiritual Essence \nWhat makes a Stotra more than just verse? In this richly textured session\, Smt. Visalakshi Sankaran opens the gateway to understanding Stotras as vessels of distilled devotion and spiritual wisdom. \nWe often see puranas as a collection of stories\, Stotras as prayers and mantras as meditative chants. Stotras and mantras are viewed as separate conduits to a higher plane of spirituality. Puranas are often\, not always\, viewed as disconnected ancient stories yet connected with the essence of Bharatiya culture. We have to look at these three as three integral connectors in the same path of Bhakti yoga\, one more subtle than the other. This session explores some examples of how strotras become the connectors between the corpus of puranas and the subtle mantras. \nRegister | Monthly ($35 USD)Guest Instructor | Visalaskhi Sankaran

SUMMARY:Balancing Bhakti and Bonding: Kabir’s couplets (Dohe) for spiritual living
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 7:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nBalancing Bhakti and Bonding: Kabir’s couplets (Dohe) for spiritual living \nThis discussion will explore how the 15th-century mystic-poet Kabir created a radically inclusive spiritual vision that embraces both the sacred and domestic spheres. Unlike the renunciation-focused spirituality of his era\, Kabir championed the grihasth (householder) path as fertile ground for spiritual realization. \nKey Discussion Points: \n\nKabir’s seamless integration of sagun (personal deity) and nirgun (formless God) devotion\nHis famous teaching “Maya me Ram base\, Ram me maya nahi” – how the divine dwells in the world without being contaminated by it\nPractical applications for modern practitioners juggling family\, career\, and spiritual growth\nThe psychology of integrated living: bringing awareness into everyday relationships and responsibilities\nWhy Kabir’s message of religious unity and authentic practice resonates powerfully in our current climate\n\nContemporary Relevance: \nKabir’s teachings address today’s challenges of religious polarization\, spiritual materialism\, and work-life balance. His emphasis on finding the sacred in simple\, honest living offers practical wisdom for contemporary audiences seeking authenticity over elaborate spiritual performance. \nThe discussion will weave together Kabir’s original dohas with contemporary applications\, exploring how adhyatma (spirituality) and grihasth (householding) can walk hand in hand\, offering a path that is both profoundly human and quietly divine \nRegister | Monthly ($35 USD)\nGuest Instructor | Shri Singh

SUMMARY:The yoga of the Pashupatis\, one of the oldest yogic lineages.
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 7:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nThe yoga of the Pashupatis\, one of the oldest yogic lineages. \nThe first yoga propounded by Lord Shiva was Pashupata\, the original name describes the aim of yoga.\nPashu meaning: animal and pati: meaning master\, it is the yoga in which one becomes aware of the relationship between one’s self and the divine in the form of slave and master. \nThe Pashupati’s are ascetics who live according to very strict principles\, first described in the Pashupata Sutras\, a treatise of yoga written in the second century BCE by Koundinya. A resurgence of the Pashupati’s took place in the first century CE\, in Gujurat\, India. \nNrtta or Pure dance\, is the legacy of the Pashupata ascetics\, whose practices prefigured those of the Naths. Through training in this art\, the sadakha (aspirant) rediscovers the natural rhythmic currents hidden within the body that unlock the other practices and sow the seeds of spontaneity.\nYet the path that leads to that spontaneity and the state of sahajavastha (natural existence) is long and rigorous and varies from individual to individual.\nShadow Yoga adheres to the basic principles of training of this ancient tradition free from the corrupt and watered down practices of the modern age.\nIn this session\, Emma will guide us in exploring the impact of karana on the mind and how it weaves into the greater fabric of yoga practice. \nThis won’t just be theoretical—we’ll experience these subtle yet powerful techniques firsthand.\nJoin us for an embodied exploration of karana and its transformative role on the mind & body. \nRegister | Monthly ($35 USD)\nGuest Instructor | Emma Balnaves

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 8:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nInsights on Kullhad Economy and the Kullhad Economy Festival (KEF) \nKullhad Economy and the Kullhad Economy Festival (KEF) are not just about clay cups — they are about Kāla\, Time itself. Rooted in Dharmic design and glocal innovation\, they celebrate a civilization that saw prosperity as rhythm — where dharma\, artha\, kāma\, and mokṣa flowed in balance\, not conflict. At KEF\, the spirit of Bhārat breathes again — where lamps are lit not just on Amāvasyā but in enterprise itself. Artisans\, thinkers\, and seekers gather to realign wealth with worship\, and production with purpose — reminding us that true growth is not in endless consumption\, but in harmony with the cycles of Nature — the very heartbeat of Sanātana Dharma. \nRegister | Monthly ($35 USD)\nGuest Instructor | Ajay Chaturvedi

SUMMARY:Navarasa in suffering\, illness\, and emotional healing
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 8:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nExploring rasa in Daily LifeNavarasa in suffering\, illness\, and emotional healingThis session explores how rasa is present in everyday suffering. In stress\, sickness\, anxiety\, grief\, irritation\, and emotional fatigue. Instead of pushing these states away\, the session invites participants to recognise them as distinct rasas that colour the mind\, shape behaviour\, and affect the body. Drawing from Āyurveda and rasa theory\, the session looks at how emotions move through digestion\, sleep\, breath\, and energy\, and how healing often begins with clear seeing. Through simple daily practices such as mindful listening\, breath\, rhythm\, and small lifestyle shifts\, participants will learn how rasa can become a practical guide for emotional balance and recovery. \nGuest Instructor | Dr Shubham Kulkarni \n\nAyurvedic doctor & music therapist – End of life care & Mental health care specialist\nHead of the Department\, Gandharva Veda Music Therapy\, MCPHI\, Maharishi University\, The Netherlands\nFellow of Naad\, Raag\, Ras & Consciousness based on Abhinavgupta’s philosophy\nTrained classical vocalist\, and disciple of Pandit Shounak Abhisheki ji\nClinical & Philosophical researcher focusing on insomnia\, depression\, pregnancy care\, Shaivism\, tantra \, mental health & end of life care .\nClinical practice & Tutoring in more than six countries .\n\nWe welcome you to join us in heartfelt conversation on the context in which Indian wisdom traditions exist in Vedic Threads. SUMMARY:Navarasa at the threshold of death and transcendence
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 10:00am ET (New York Time) / 8:30 pm IST\nWorld Time Buddy can help you figure out your time zone \nExploring rasa in Daily LifeNavarasa at the threshold of death and transcendenceThis session brings rasa to life’s deepest threshold\, and to the many smaller thresholds within daily life. Endings\, losses\, separation\, ageing\, and letting go. Through navarasa\, participants will explore how fear and sorrow arise alongside love\, devotion\, courage\, and wonder\, each as a lived flavour with its own intelligence. Drawing from the Śaiva Tantric vision\, the session reflects on how emotions can be held without denial or collapse\, and gradually refined into insight. The movement of rasa toward śānta becomes a way to understand transcendence not as escape\, but as steadiness and clarity within change. The session invites participants to see how living with rasa each day can prepare the mind for transition with depth\, dignity\, and peace. \nGuest Instructor | Dr Shubham Kulkarni \n\nAyurvedic doctor & music therapist – End of life care & Mental health care specialist\nHead of the Department\, Gandharva Veda Music Therapy\, MCPHI\, Maharishi University\, The Netherlands\nFellow of Naad\, Raag\, Ras & Consciousness based on Abhinavgupta’s philosophy\nTrained classical vocalist\, and disciple of Pandit Shounak Abhisheki ji\nClinical & Philosophical researcher focusing on insomnia\, depression\, pregnancy care\, Shaivism\, tantra \, mental health & end of life care .\nClinical practice & Tutoring in more than six countries .\n\nRegister | Monthly ($35 USD)
