Thomas Eder
Thomas Eder, born in 1963 in Salzburg, Austria, spent his early years on a farm in the picturesque Moonlake Area until his family moved to Vienna at the age of five. By eight, Thomas was already delving into the world of music with the Tabla and reading the works of Lao Tse. His musical journey rapidly expanded, and by eleven, he was performing concerts, mastering various percussion instruments, and studying music therapy under the creator of the TA KE TI NA System.
The loss of his father at thirteen was a pivotal moment in his life. However, Thomas’s passion for music continued to guide him, and in 1980, at just sixteen, he traveled to Bombay to study under the legendary Tabla maestros Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain. This began a lifelong connection with India, a country he would visit nearly every year thereafter.
In 1982, Thomas encountered the spiritual teachings of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, leading to his initiation into Surat Shabd Yoga in 1993—a practice that holds significant space in his life. His musical career flourished, and from 1985 he taught Tabla and music, alongside performing in various projects.
Thomas’s journey took him to Paris in 1990, where he worked with the Goethe Institute and engaged in numerous musical endeavors, including creating music for silent films showcased at the Louvre Museum among other European cities.
Relocating to Zürich in 2006, Thomas contributed to the Rudolf Steiner school, immersing himself in the Waldorf education system. His dedication to personal growth led him to undertake intense Yoga and Pranayama practices in 2011, complementing his daily meditation with self-healing processes, a strict vegan diet, and a profound connection with nature and herbalism.
Since 2021, he has served as the representative of Radha Soami Satsang Beas in Switzerland, overseeing the local Sangat and Satsang activities, continuing to share his deep-seated spiritual and musical wisdom.
